First Holy Communion

By | September 7, 2016

Sunday was a big day for my niece.  She received her First Holy Communion.  It was a beautiful event and great day surrounded by family.  Congratulations Kathryn!  We are so happy for you and you looked beautiful on your special day.

I ended up making 2 cards for Kathryn, one from my husband and me, and another for my in-laws to give her.  Both cards are shown below and are centered around the same stamp set All God’s Grace, yet they are completely different in their styles.

Watercolored First Communion

I created a watercolor washed background for this first card.  Using an Aqua painter, I created the background with Marina Mist ink.  It took 3 layers to achieve the color I wanted for the background.  Tip: Make sure you have wet Watercolor paper before adding color.  Wait for each layer to dry or use a Heat Tool to dry it faster before going back over with another layer.

When I went back over the layers, I did not completely cover the previous layer.  I wanted to be able to see the blending and multiple tones of Marina Mist ink.

For the second card, I embossed a piece of Whisper White Cardstock with the Petal Burst embossing folder.  The card base is Thick Whisper White Cardstock, I like to use the thick cardstock for a sturdier base.

Retired Product Alert:  I found a scrap piece of Retired Something Borrowed DSP that I used behind the cross.  I punched out the flower from the Retired Itty Bitty Accents Punch Pack in So Saffron Cardstock.  I added Retired Venetian Crochet Trim to the Something Borrowed DSP before adhering to the the card front.
